Grant County Busted Booking Records
A booking starts with a photograph. When someone is received at a jail or custodial facility in Grant County, that intake becomes a custody file. Grant County itself has no verified county-only jail roster. Local arrests that need regional custody usually go to the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, or PHRJ, in Augusta. PHRJ serves Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, and Pendleton Counties under the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
That shared setup affects how you read results. A PHRJ entry might stem from a Grant arrest, or from one of the other counties in the service area. Check the arresting agency, the date, and the court case before counting a listing as a Grant event. The official PHRJ facility page names the facility and its service area. Arrest reports may sit with the sheriff, while the regional booking file sits with PHRJ or WVDCR.
State policy fills in one more detail. WVDCR Policy 151.00 requires front, left-profile, and right-profile LiveScan photographs of adult inmates, and the front view becomes the OIS header. So an intake image does exist. Still, that does not guarantee every public OIS result shows a photo, and charges listed at booking can later be reduced, dismissed, diverted, resolved by plea, or tried in court.
Record status matters. A booking is only a booking. Verify the court outcome before drawing any conclusion from a charge, image, or current-custody listing.
Grant County Booking Record Fields
West Virginia's booking regulation covers a broad intake file, but the public view is narrower and a records response can redact confidential material. Use the fields here to match the right Grant County record without prying into health details, identification data, property, or emergency contacts.
| Field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Name and aliases | The identity entered at intake, to compare with other identifiers. |
| Booking number and date | The intake event and a useful reference for a focused request. |
| Arresting agency | Whether the sheriff, city police, State Police, or another agency made the arrest report. |
| Charges as booked | Charges at intake. |
| Facility and status | Where a person was reported and a custody view that can change. |
| Bond or court reference | A lead for the magistrate or circuit case. |
| Booking photo | An intake image that may remain in the file even if it is not shown online. |
Question: If no photo appears, was there no booking? Not necessarily. The accessible OIS view never confirmed a universal photo display. Ask the likely custodian whether a releasable image exists and whether an exemption or redaction applies.
Booking simply means intake into custody. Bond is a court-set condition that can allow release. A disposition is the court outcome that follows. Expungement is a court-controlled process that may seal or remove records when the statute's requirements are met.
Request Grant County Booking Photos
When the live custody search comes up empty, try a narrow written request. West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act sets the rule. It is Chapter 29B. The law demands reasonable specificity. A custodian must respond as soon as practicable. The outer limit is five business days, and weekends and legal holidays do not count. The reply can hand over the record, arrange an inspection, or deny the request in writing. Remember, that deadline covers the response only. A complex file or image can take longer to produce.
- Identify the person, date of birth if known, booking or arrest date, and arresting agency.
- Ask separately for an electronic booking record and, if maintained and releasable, the front booking photograph.
- Send an arrest-report request to the Grant County Sheriff's Department, 5 Highland Avenue, Petersburg, WV 26847, or ask gcsher@sheriff.state.wv.us how it accepts a formal request.
- For a PHRJ admission, direct the request to PHRJ, 355 Dolan Drive, Augusta, WV 26704, 304-496-1275, and identify WVDCR regional-jail custody.
- Ask the custodian to state any exemption, redaction basis, or actual reproduction charge before processing.
Section 29B-1-3 permits reasonable reproduction charges tied to actual cost. No published booking-photo fee exists for the Grant sheriff or WVDCR, and nothing supports a general search or staff-time charge under that provision. A magistrate's written criminal-history search is a different animal entirely. Section 50-3-7 sets it at $25 per name, subject to statutory exceptions.
Note: Request only the record tied to the specific event, since an intake file can contain private or protected material excluded from a public response.
Grant County Busted Mugshots Law
West Virginia Code Section 62-1-6a is the current mugshot-publication rule. It governs how law enforcement shares booking photographs on social media for defined minor offenses. The section also builds in a removal request process after certain favorable outcomes. It is not a blanket privacy shield. Nor can it force a third-party host to take down a copied photo. WVDCR and its subordinate organizations fall outside the section's definition of a law-enforcement agency. So a sheriff social-media request and a PHRJ record request are two separate processes.
Dismissal, acquittal, diversion, sealing, or expungement all start with the court record and the applicable statute. Section 61-11-25 covers qualifying favorable dispositions. Section 61-11-26 handles conviction-based eligibility, with conditions and exclusions. The West Virginia Judiciary forms page lists current forms and instructions. An order can change what an agency releases. Still, it will not erase every independent copy floating elsewhere.
Work any correction one source at a time. Save the exact source URL, the disposition or order, and the request date. Busted Newspaper and RecentlyBooked each describe a no-fee host process for removing a listing. Neither controls other copies or guarantees a result. Refuse to pay a service just because it demands money. Once a source changes, run the search engine's official refresh process for that exact result. Keep in mind that a search result is not the same thing as the source record.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, investigative, confidential-source, and identification-number material can all be withheld or redacted. A copied record already online does not override a later court order. One more caution is needed. A 2024 proposal called HB 4621 never became law, so do not cite it as a Grant County booking-photo rule.
Grant County Regional Jail Records
PHRJ serves five counties, not Grant alone. The WVDCR FY2025 annual report lists it as the custody facility for pretrial and sentenced felony and misdemeanor populations. Those populations come from Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, and Pendleton Counties. Rated capacity sits at 312. Treat that figure as a fact about the building. It says nothing about Grant County arrest volume or last month's bookings.
Why does one incident leave a trail of separate records? Petersburg or Bayard police, the Grant County Sheriff, West Virginia State Police, or another agency may make the arrest. PHRJ then logs the custody event. The Grant County magistrate court or 25th Judicial Circuit handles the case itself. Someone can also be cited and released, held elsewhere, or transferred before an OIS status shows up. Collapsing all of that into one county photo listing loses the picture.
Before calling any office, jot down a few details. Note the facility name, booking or status date, court case number, and the date you accessed the record. A custodian can then tell a regional admission apart from an arrest report or a later court action. Those details also guard against matching a record to the wrong person when names repeat. If another agency holds the record, ask the office to point you to the right custodian.
Older state documents say PHRJ opened in 2000 and give a smaller design capacity. That is history, nothing more. The dependable sequence is simple. Check current OIS status first, then the arresting agency, then the linked court case for the outcome.
Note: The facility name, county connection, and status date keep a regional OIS result from being overread.
Find Grant County Busted Records
Work the official systems in custody order. State search first. Then identify the agency. Then follow the court case. The regional-jail search covers current or recent regional custody only. It is not a full arrest history, a Grant-only roster, or a final case result.
- Open the WVDCR offender-search hub and choose the regional-jail search.
- Search the exact name, then compare date of birth, sex, facility, and status rather than relying on a name alone.
- Confirm that PHRJ and an arresting-agency or court record connect the entry to Grant County.
- For a date-specific question, open OIS Daily Incarcerations and select the date and PHRJ admissions view.
- Use magistrate or circuit court for bond, hearing, dismissal, plea, sentence, or disposition. If an online path fails, send a focused agency or PHRJ request.
There is no verified Grant sheriff roster, booking feed, or jail-information app. The sheriff's official Facebook account posts public-safety notices. Nobody should treat it as a confirmed booking feed. GettingIt is a WVDCR communication and visitation service. It is not a custody lookup. Actually, GettingOut holds that role, and it is not a lookup either. With no app available, fresh checks of OIS, the agency, and the court matter more.
The county's official sheriff page names Steven Wratchford and lists the county contact. It does not publish a dedicated booking-photo records line. Call 304-257-1818 for routing. Do not treat that number as a stand-in for a written record request.
Grant County Busted Roster at PHRJ
For current custody, start with the OIS Regional Jail Authority search. A direct visit can bounce you to the current OIS host. Stale session links sometimes fail too. When that happens, go back to the WVDCR hub. Some unofficial pages call the place "Grant County Jail." PHRJ is the facility name that matters for regional custody.
| Search item | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Name | Use the full name when possible and retry reasonable spelling variants. |
| County or agency context | Use county-aware fields when available, then confirm the arresting agency separately. |
| Date of birth and sex | Match identity details before attaching a result to a person. |
| Facility and status | Read PHRJ location and status as of the access date, not as a permanent conclusion. |
| Booking or charge details | Use them as a lead to the booking record and court case. |
OIS updates its data regularly, and statuses shift fast. A listing may lag behind someone's real location, release, or status. Getting no result could mean a release, a transfer, a spelling difference, a delay, or a glitch. It never rules out that an arrest happened. Two tools do different jobs here: the daily report sorts by date and institution, while the individual record is the stronger custody check.
WVDCR Policy 151.00 describes the three-photo LiveScan process and the front OIS header image. Check what the live result actually displays. Not every public record exposes a photo. When one is missing, request the releasable image from the likely custodian.
The PHRJ facility page backs up the regional-custody context shown here.

The facility source separates PHRJ's real five-county custody role from an invented county-only jail roster.
Note: A regional facility result needs a county and agency check before it can be called a Grant County booking.
Grant County Recent Booking Windows
There is no official same-day, hourly, or 24-to-72-hour booking feed from the Grant County sheriff. The nearest official tool is OIS Daily Incarcerations. Open the Daily Incarcerations page, pick a date, and read the admissions-by-institution report for PHRJ. "Same day" simply means the date you chose. Nothing here is an instant alert. For a longer window, run the same steps across several dates and compare PHRJ admissions, but check each entry's arresting agency and county before counting anything toward Grant. The jail houses people from five counties. Date-specific links can also expire between sessions. No permanent public archive or fixed retention window exists for this interface.
Two news outlets fill gaps. Grant County Press prints weekly and selectively, and WHSV reports on the county when a story warrants it. Neither is a booking log. Busted Newspaper, RecentlyBooked, Arrests.org, and Arre.st are unofficial leads that can mix jurisdictions or hold stale entries. Verify every lead against OIS and the court file.
Question: What if a name never appears in the daily view? Try a fresh OIS session, the individual search, the arresting agency, and the court. A person may have been released, transferred, cited, held elsewhere, or simply not yet show up in the public system.
Grant County DOC and Court Records
WVDCR's search hub splits regional-jail custody from state-prison custody. A PHRJ entry means local or pretrial custody. A prison result means the person has moved into state corrections after sentencing or a transfer. Neither search is a full Grant County arrest archive. Check the photo display live rather than taking anyone's word for it.
For the court side, the Grant County Judiciary page routes you to the right clerk. Grant shares the 25th Judicial Circuit with Mineral County. The free magistrate name or case search can surface a docket. Circuit documents flow through WVPASS via the Judiciary court-record access hub. A case file may show first appearance, bond, preliminary hearing, bindover, plea, dismissal, acquittal, conviction, sentence, or a later sealing order.
The magistrate search works by name or case number but returns only a limited set of records, and not every document is online. Match the county and event date before trusting a name hit, then ask the magistrate clerk for a copy. WVPASS became the statewide circuit-record system in March 2025 and supplies public circuit documents under the Judiciary's stated nominal fees. When something is not online, the circuit clerk is still the local route.
A PHRJ result is a custody record, not a court judgment. People leave the regional facility before charges resolve, and a copied listing may never reflect a plea, dismissal, or sentence. The case number and disposition date are the strongest links between a booking and its later outcome. If an order is sealed or expunged, hand the custodian the order and case number when asking for a correction or asking what remains releasable.
Federal sentenced custody lives in a separate system. Use the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. It is not a Grant booking roster and not a mugshot gallery. Immigration detention has its own federal locator, so keep it apart from both PHRJ and BOP results.
Follow the disposition. Charges can shift after booking. The magistrate or circuit case is where the court outcome gets set.
Grant County Busted Records After Release
A shifting roster is not a lasting record. Read each source by custody state. That way, a release, transfer, or court result is not read as something missing or something proven. Older material may need a custodian request or an archival search rather than a live OIS query.
| Status | Official starting point | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Recent or current PHRJ custody | OIS regional-jail search and date-selected daily report. | Final guilt, a Grant-only connection, or a fixed release date. |
| Released or transferred | Arresting agency, PHRJ/WVDCR request, and court docket. | That a booking never occurred. |
| State prison custody | WVDCR prison offender search and court records. | Every prior Grant booking or original arrest report. |
| Historical material | Agency schedule, court files, and Archives and History. | Guaranteed online access to a modern photo. |
The sheriff retention schedule gives commitment records five years. It makes no promise about digital photos. State records rules still treat photographs as records under the responsible schedule. Start with the agency or PHRJ for a regional booking. For older local-record context, turn to the Grant County Archives and History page.
Grant County Busted City Records
Grant County has two incorporated municipalities, not three. Both feed into the shared regional-custody path when an arrest enters PHRJ. Each city keeps its own contacts. Each has its own information gap too. The city pages lay out those local routes without treating a regional entry as proof of anything at the city level.
- Petersburg Busted Mugshots: Petersburg Police is listed in the official SIRN directory. No verified city booking feed exists, and a city arrest, county court case, and PHRJ record can be separate records.
- Bayard Busted Mugshots: Bayard Police is also listed in SIRN. No Bayard-only roster or blotter was located, so the municipal routing contact, PHRJ/OIS, and arresting-agency record are the useful path.
Lead every city search with official notices and court records. For the local media landscape, see Mugshots in the News. Official warrant-check routes sit on the Sheriff's Most Wanted page.
